Lowcountry Inshore Slam

So turns out, I'm back in Beaufort, spending a few weeks with the family.
Trying to enjoy the last few weeks of this lovely warm weather.
Being out on the river is something that I need, I long for, I have saltwater in my blood... being away from it really hurts, it's just depressing.
So being here, right now, is just reviving me!
Since I've been here, I have gone out on the river, swimming on private beaches, fishing inshore, fishing the channels..  I love fishing. The one fish I have yet caught, is a southern favorite, it's known as the Red Fish, Red Drum, or Spot Tail Bass. My brother has taken me out a handful of times, but I never seem to catch that fish. But today I finally hooked my first one! It was small, but it meant so much, size doesn't matter in this case! After releasing it, a few minutes later I hooked up with this big beauty below! It was gorgeous! I couldn't believe my eyes when I hooked it! It was fun reeling it in! When I got it on the platform of the boat, I was all smiles! The feeling of catching a Red Fish is like no other, the adrenaline is crazy, you just don't want to stop hooking them. Releasing that beauty, was one of the best feelings, I hope that others will have the same experience as I did. I also caught a little Flounder. All I needed to hook was a Trout, and it would have been an inshore slam all in one day!
My brother on the other hand hooked a good size Trout, it was slightly purple, with tons of spots, such a beautiful fish.
Today was such an amazing day, I am so grateful to have caught these fish, spend time with my brother, be out on the saltwater, and watch the Carolina sun set.

It's one of those days..

Here in good ol' South Carolina,
the weather is nice; I mean like upper 60's nice.
(Are you jealous, you should be).
And you know what I'm in the mood to go do?
Fish.
I wanna put on my blues, along with my chunky wool socks, slip on some Duck Boots, grab my Plaid, and let's not forget the rod, and head out to the river to enjoy this beautiful day.
*But no,
instead I'm being forced to go the Dentist, which I dread. (Are you still jealous, you should not be).
I hope everyone is having a lovely and (Dentist Free) Tuesday!

You wont believe your eyes...

When I got home earlier today, my father asked, "did you see what your brother caught earlier when we went fishing"? I'm thinking, a Flounder, Shark, maybe a Toad Fish.. man was I wrong! My brother walks in the living room, holding his camera, and sits next to me. I grab his camera, to see just what he caught, and I immediately had to take a double take... He caught an Octopus? Are you kidding me? How? .. Then I started asking all the 'other' questions, like how did it feel, was it big, how did it smell, was it cute, did it bite, did it suction-cup your hand, did it try to eat you? I mean this is (I'm going to use one of my brothers famous words).... EPIC! When do you ever hear of people, none the less my own brother, catching this amazing creatures of the sea?.. They don't seem as excited as me, but I think it's pretty awesome! It's a good thing I didn't go with them earlier, or I would have been coming home with the cute little Octopus, squeezin' him, and lovin' on him, until he squirted ink on me, then he'd have to go! (And yes, he did squirt ink out when they tossed him back in the water). How cool!

So the question of the day is... have you ever caught an Octopus? Or maybe some other strange creature of the sea?

Shark Week

Let's go fishing..
So earlier today, my brother, and Jason were going Shark Fishing. I know what that means.. killing innocent little fish to catch bigger fish. So me being the sweet caring person that I am, didn't want to go. Well, I ended up getting pressured to go. I thought I could just lay out and read or something. Ha, yeah.. okay Kristen. The boys ended up catching tons of bait fish, which made me sad... "whyyyy do we have to kill them", I kept asking.
Once they were finished catching all the bait they needed, we headed to a spot close by the boat ramp, and started fishing, yes, I started fishing for Sharks. In the distance we could see the storm, and it was coming in. It was relaxing, watching the storm in the distance, and fishing with the guys. I ended up catching to baby Sharks, my brother caught some, and a Lady Fish, Jason caught a huge Lady Fish, and he also caught something that was massive, right when he was pulling it in, the line snapped! Oh well..
The storm started getting closer, lighting started to strike, it was definitely time to head to the boat ramp! As we started to make our way to the boat ramp, the wind started picking up, it was crazy! We probably looked like idiots.. but the good thing is, we made it back safe and sound.

Wading for Reds

Let's go Wading for some Reds...
Yesterday afternoon, I went Flats Fishing with my father and brother. When we got out there, the tide was just right. We anchored the boat, jumped onto the flats, and started walking to our spots. The water started covering the marsh, and all we could do was wait for some tails. The fiddlers swam past, the snails started to crawl up the tall grass, and there in the distance we saw a splash. My brother got to it before I did, we both just stood there, watched the beautiful Red tail in the water, then it was time to cast the rod, he casted about four times, but we ended up spooking him. In the distance we heard my dad yelling about something. We headed towards him. Let me just say, walking in thigh high water is a workout. When we finally reached him, we saw he had a Red! It was a gorgeous fish and a really good size! My dad had a smile from ear to ear! I took a few pictures, then we released it. We started walking again, all three of us set off in different directions. I came across an island that had huge spiders, everywhere I looked, there was a spider. I called it Spider Island. We all three ended up meeting back up, and started to just cast our rods for fun.. the sun started to set, which meant it was time to walk back to our boat.
The sunset look like a big ball of fire; it was the perfect way to end the day!

Let's recap...

There's going to be a full moon out tonight..
I wanted to show you guys these pictures I took last Thursday while waiting for my friend (who was taking FOREVER!) Just kidding, I'm glad she was running late for our date so I could capture these pretty sail boats floating on a sea of glass, with the moon shinning bright in the sky.
Taken with a Nikon D3000 on the no-flash setting.

Water dogs . .

It was once again a chilly day here on the coast of South Carolina. My brother and his friend Anton, thought it was a great day for Freshwater Fishing.. so they went down the street to my friend's house, he lives on a river and a big freshwater pond, yeah, he has the life! I decided to ride down there and play around with my camera. I took pictures of the boys fishing, along with my dog and the owner's dog, Toby. My dog, Max, loves water, so as soon as he got out of the car, guess where he headed, if you said the pond, you were right, if you said the river, you are also right! When I went on the dock to take pictures, Max jumped in the water, and swam to the sandbar, well the sandbar is surrounded by pluff mud, which you will most likely get stuck in.. and that's what happened to him! Thankfully he got unstuck and swam back.. he's a good dog, sometimes. Anyways here's some pictures from this evening!

How was your weekend?

By the way these were taken with a Nikon D3000, on the Manual Setting.

It's what makes you happy.

My Father and Brother went fishing early this morning, even though my dad didn't catch anything, my brother did! And he got it on a fly! My brother was so happy! He wants to be a Fishing Guide when he get's older, and he is serious about making it his career. He actually just got back from Florida, he went down there to get lessons on how to cast a little better. He's so cute, he actually pretends he's casting during the day, in the car, in his bed, probably even on the toilet-
These are the pictures that my dad took of him today. Isn't that Bass just beautiful? Remember, they do not keep any fish they catch, it's always a catch release kinda thing.
For dinner, I went to Savannah with Jason, we went to Tubby's Tankhouse, which turned out to be really good! We ordered Calamari with banana peppers for $9.95, a plate of Hush Pup's for only $2.99, and we both got Cesar Salad's for $6.99, he added chicken to his which was an extra $3. And there was a live singer, and we were being entertained by some older 'drunk' people, which is always fun to watch!
